Where are they now? Rien Long

If you’re like me you sometimes find yourself wondering “Whatever happened to former Cougar Outland Trophy winner Rien Long?” The Outland Trophy is no small shakes for the record. Past winners include John Henderson, Russel Maryland, and Orlando Pace to name a few. This year’s winner was LSU’s much heralded DT Glenn Dorsey.

In fact, this analysis of college football awards as a predictor of pro success shows that Outland Trophy winners are second only to Lombardi award winners.

But I watch a ton of football and don’t remember seeing Long recently, so I got H&F’s crack research staff on the case. Rien Long has been out of football since the 2005 season after suffering an achilles injury. We still caught up with him though in Nashville.
