A Trend Indeed: Beavers Seek Rivalry with Huskies

Running segment alert! Constable Echelon seeks out and reports on the trends that shape today’s sporting world.

Wondering about what contributed to the debacling of Oregon State by UW yesterday? Apparently, the Beavs disrupted Washington’s Friday shootaround to talk shit to our Dawgs.

Not sated, OSU spectacularly then went to UW’s hotel and left a voicemail (or sent a text message depending on reports) requesting that Venoy Overton to report to the parking lot for a beating.

The Oregonian’s Beaver beat guy (and that job is why I will never go into sportswriting) reacts:

Dumb, dumb, dumb … why screw with one of the only teams left on the schedule that you actually have a chance to beat?

Recent OSU offenses come on the heels of Al Afalava’s head hunting of Jake Locker last November. The Beaver-centric coverage of this incident was expertly skewered by our own Fig Jam. (One of my favorite pieces ever to run on this site, btw.)

So Oregon State, it seems, deigns to elbow in on the gruesome twosome and create a hatred troika of NW Pac-10 schools for UW fans. Should we recognize their efforts and start hating them? Or let Salsa U lie? Either way, it’s a trend indeed.

I do not hate them. And Reser’s salsa isn’t rly that good…I mean, there are better salsas in the salsa aisle…I would still eat it though, if it was the dip de jure at somebody’s function.

Also, Overton seems like a magnet for trouble….this is the first of many (these type of) incidents to come. Probably.

What I really like about OSU is the tact they’ve taken in football: Hurt people. Not like, hit really hard or anything like that, but just flat out end someone’s season. Be it with a late block from behind or a little helmut to helmut job, OSU is fantastic at hurting other players.
