Free-throw shooting, like basic rifle marksmanship, or clutch time one-cup beer pongery, can be coached. Maybe it was something Bone handled as an assistant. Obviously Romar has chosen to emphasize other areas; I think that in his carefree attitude toward this problem he has publicly admitted as much. What does everyone think of Downtown Freddy Brown's April Fools joke? I think it's hilarious. A giant fossilzed trilobite on pier 46, complete with retractable roof? Where would the chinese overseas shipping company unload their cheap factory goods? Clearly Seattle needs an NHL franchise to go along with the MLS expansion team. This is like a seattletimes sponsored submit your best crayon-on-napkin sketched pipedream gone silly. Preposterous.

When the free throw shooting technique is bad, it's on the coaches, and practicing shooting with bad technique is worse than not practicing at all. It may be that they all shot better in high school because they were getting better coaching on this aspect of their game.

Free throw shooting is on the players, not the coaches. Everyone of these players shot FT's at a higher percentage in High School. They let themselves get mentally defeated by the FT bug and psyched themselves out. Coaching had nothing to do with it. I think the coaches did the right thing by downplaying it's importance publicly (while still practicing it a lot).

Ultimately, either you're going to make a shot to win a game, or you're not. This year's brand of UW bball featured players who were not going to make that shot. Either in the course of the game, or at the charity stripe.

If Dollar is that good, chances are he would have had a head coaching gig by now. The Huskies' miserable free throw shooting percenrtage (second to last in Division 1) is indicative of a serious deficiency on our coaching staff, not unlike what we saw with the football team last fall. Look for more of the same next year (including a return trip to the CBI) unless Romar upgrades his coaching staff.

To redirect back to UW hoops, the linked website could spell some trouble ahead on the recruiting road for us. Cameron Dollar is undoubtedly a huge part of our ability to garner top players, and if he leaves, our numbers could dwindle.
