Happy Chris Polk Day!

Constable Echelon

Nobody told me about this, but I’m happy to join in. Both dailies ran stories today on highly touted pre-freshman UW receiver Chris Polk. Polk, you may recall, initially signed with USC before spurning them when inspired by the football gods to help restore the glory of Washington.

Or maybe it was because he knew he could play at UW right away. Whatever.

First from the hardest working man in newspapers, Bob Condotta:

“He’s really explosive, and he can make you miss,” Lappano said. “He can run through tackles when he hits you, and when he finishes the run he can always get two and three more yards because he can get behind his pads and move you a little bit. And he’s got really good hands. So he brings a lot to the table as far as a lot of things you can do with him and being able to move him around.”

Polk said he doesn’t mind the high expectations, saying he’s heard such talk his entire life. In fact, he’s happily wearing No. 1 at UW, the number worn by Reggie Williams, the last Huskies receiver to garner such hype as a freshman.

That’s pretty good. Jim Moore! Can you top this?

Polk showed up at Hec Ed Pavilion wearing a black T-shirt with one side of it saying “Your Girl” with an arrow pointing to a plain Jane. The other side said “My Girl,” with an arrow pointing to a seductive silhouette.

Polk’s talking about YOUR GIRL, son! In t-shirt form! Deal with it! Say what you will about the Go 2 Guy, but he reports a lot of (for lack of a better term) “bloggy” angles that I enjoy.

Any (Caruso pause) Moore?

Locker to Polk, Locker to Polk — that figures to be Bob Rondeau’s new catchphrase in the broadcast booth, followed by “Touchdown Washington!” and too many sirens for my liking.

Consider me fired up. My eyes are itchy. I didn’t sleep well last night. Diagnosis? Spring Game fever. I can’t wait for Saturday.

The augurs in the temple of Huard say that we’re looking at Paul Arnold Redux.

Get on up the Peace Train!

I know they need WRs, but Polk needs to be a TB. He is the only potential star RB on the roster, and although he will see plenty of early playing time at WR, he won’t ever be a star at that position. And when you consider how much more important RBs are to the college game than WRs, it is obvious this is a significant misuse of talent.

My only hope is that he packs heat on campus, plays 1 season, attends “school” for 1 quarter, then goes on to be one of the greatest players we have ever seen, turns to the dark side [belichick] then wins a superbowl.

Better that then all these fine upstanding young men we have who can’t seem to win a real game.

AKA good to see some ball players who can bring back those w’s. I’ll be in attendance saturday.

Each time we run the fly sweep with Polk, as expected, I suggest we shout out the words “Horizontal Polka!” and jump on each other. Think of it as this year’s “Jailbreak!” Constable, I know you’re with me on this.

Did you hear about the two cell phone towers that got married? The ceremony was nothing special, but the reception was excellent!
