The Red Sox are in town, which is always a treat.  I really like their fanbase.  Passionate bunch.  The following is a conversation you may have with roughly 90% of all Boston Fans today.

Are we serious with that, United States?

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

I just finished watching the United States play England in an international friendly and feel compelled to to vent my frustrations. Wow. What a horrible performance. I really wanted to watch the boys pip the Three Lions at home, who were ripe for the picking.

We only get precious few chances to impress the English, our big brother in the footballing world. What a golden opportunity - in the game’s greatest cathedral, in front of 70,000 skeptical English fans, to show how far we’ve advanced. Instead, we come out and look like a bunch of bloody muppets.

Sounders should sign McBride

The Seattle Sounders… my favorite Seattle sports franchise at the moment, should take note that Brian McBride has left Fulham to return to the United States.  The 35 year old US soccer stalwart would be a great get for the Sounders in my opinion, as he would provide name recognition, veteran leadership, and Premier league experience to the virgin MLS squad.

McBride has played for the United States in 3 World Cups, scoring a goal in 2 of them.  For the Sounders, he would be a big target that could be utilized on set pieces and who could provide a spark on offense for a team that will be playing together next season for the first time.  Having a guy who can change a game in an instant may be helpful for a team that may struggle with chemistry for a while.

I dunno… I defer to Hotdog on all soccer related matters, but this seems like it would make a lot of sense.  Right or wrong?

In which I call upon the Spurs to throw next season

Everyone who hates the Spurs can sit back and enjoy basketball again.  They are going to lose to the celebrated and beloved Lakers (kobe bryant - reknown for being a great guy) and all will be well again.  Ratings will go up, David Stern will rejoice (and everyone wants things to go Stern’s way), and we will be able to put this miserable era of Spurs dominance to rest.

I need one of these “manager” jobs

Sager Bombs

2 managers off to bad starts.  Both manage teams that were picked to make the playoffs in the preseason by a lot of people.

Manager A has a $138m payroll, Manager B’s is $117m.

Manager A’s record is 24-26 (.480) , Manager B’s is 19-34 (.358).

Can someone explain to me why every day we hear the latest news regarding the status of Manager A (Willie Randolph of the Mets) while Manager B (our own John McLaren) has been receiving votes of confidence for a good week straight?  Really?  Votes of confidence?  Am I missing something?  The fuck kind of confidence has this season given you?
