In which I call upon the Spurs to throw next season
Fig Jam
Everyone who hates the Spurs can sit back and enjoy basketball again. They are going to lose to the celebrated and beloved Lakers (kobe bryant - reknown for being a great guy) and all will be well again. Ratings will go up, David Stern will rejoice (and everyone wants things to go Stern’s way), and we will be able to put this miserable era of Spurs dominance to rest.

Now, although I realize the Spurs are technically not out of it, let’s be realistic and start looking towards the future. I am more than willing to throw next season for the lottery pick. So, let’s let Manu rest a year. Send Parker back to France to pursue his lifelong dream of being a professional football player. Ditto Duncan and the Cayman Island swim team. With the luck this franchise operates with, it will miss the playoffs, win the lottery, and draft the future. Then, Duncan and Company can return for a few more seasons of Championship ball before handing control over to the future.
It’s how the Spurs operate. It’s Spurs basketball. They owe it to me and the rest of their fans (ie only people in San Antonio) to conjure up that magic once again and win a lottery they have no business winning in order to perpetuate the dynasty. Now let’s get it done.

Oh and a question for you Bones Barry advocates. Did last night’s game find you torn at all, or is it just like any other former beloved Seattle player who goes somewhere else (or is it enough that he’s on the Spurs to change the analysis).

I won’t be ready to enjoy things again until they’re out, although I have started browsing for good pictures of people celebrating for the “Goodbye, Spurs” post I’ll be writing.

I still love Barry, but that was a good no call in my eyes. Bones waited too long to shoot.

Oh… it was clearly a foul. Can’t believe you’d argue otherwise. I just meant from the standpoint that Barry resurrected himself for 1 game and had the chance to be a hero. If you were a Bones advocate would that have been sweet, or would the fact that he did it for the Spurs override?
Even though I’m unhappy the foul wasn’t called, that’s how it goes. The Spurs have caught more than their fair share of breaks.
Sager - if you’re looking for pictures of celebration, try googling the Spurs… their fanbase has had a lot to celebrate. Or I guess you could google the SEC. They celebrate so much better than the PAC 10, and they make better nachos.

If I were still watching the playoffs, I would have loved to see Bones flowing. That guy is awesome.
Did he play in the same backcourt as Gary Payton at Oregon State?

They just missed each. GP left school in ‘90, Barry in ‘95. They both missed CJ Giles by over a decade.

Neither of us can look at that play objectively, Fig Jam.
Personally I think you don’t call that in a playoff game, but I admit I’d likely have a different take had Tony Parker inadvertently run into Kobe. Kobe would have made it anyway though.
Missed you at hoops tonight.

I think that missed shot just goes to show that Bones is still a Sonic at heart (not from the first time, but from the time we traded Kurt Thomas for him and then he was immediately waived). A true Spur would have done a much better job of flopping and/or getting bug-eyed with the offical.
