Could Paul Pierce’s “injury” have been more contrived?
Constable Echelon
Paul Pierce collapsed in a heap on the baseline, clutching his knee. Brian Scalabrine had to carry him off the court. Pierce, at this point crying, was put into a wheelchair just to make it to the training room. Boston’s season hung in the balance. The highest of drama for ABC.
And then five minutes later Paul Pierce skipped out onto the court. Turns out he wasn’t hurt at all. This didn’t stop ABC from milking the bejesus out of this third rate Willis Reed moment. What COURAGE in the face of OVERWHELMING ADVERSITY!
“How long ago do you think they planned this?” wondered Hotdog after Pierce’s triumphant return to a standing ovation.
I’m just going to preemptively stop watching ESPN right now, because I know I will lose it if I’m subjected to a Rachel Nichols report on Paul Pierce’s status going into game two.
Actually, let’s make it my scoop.
“Constable Echelon of Hotdog & Friends is reporting that Paul Pierce will start Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday. Pierce is showing no lingering effects from his non-injury in Game 1.”
Ok, now that’s out of the way. Let’s instead talk about how disjointed The Lake Show’s offense looked in the fourth quarter or how Phil Jackson is going to change things up on Doc Rivers. Anything but this Pierce story, I’m begging you.

Pierce is being lauded for his courage - he should be taking heat for being a huge bitch and making his teammates carry him. Last time I checked, he didn’t fake-injure both knees. Walk it off like a man.
And people give shit to soccer players for faking injuries…

From cnnsi this morning, “Larry Bird did come walking through that door after all. He had changed size, shape and color, but the changes were incidental.”
seriously - go read this. The entire thing is about how Pierce’s legacy will be that he reminded the people of Boston about how great Bird was. What a tribute.< http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/ian_thomsen/06/06/game1/index.html?eref=T1
