Was it exciting to watch a Heat-Grizzlies game this year? But explain what about the NBA Finals made the quality "dirt poor". Also, I've never claimed boring fights to be exciting (ie Mayweather-De La Hoya). Mayweather's performance in that fight was like watching Tim Duncan play basketball. They each do all of the little things to help themselves win, but you're much more likely to see those things show up on scouting tapes or Tom Emanski's Basketball/Boxing Fundamentals tapes than you are to see them on any highlight reel. I thought he fought a great fight (one judge disagreed with me), but it wasn't nearly as entertaining as watching him spin Ricky Hatton's British face into the turnbuckle.

Oh, and when you're worried that you might get fired if your bosses find out you made fun of the Storm on a blog, you're already in hell.

I will concede Mr. Lover Lover Shaggy's point about boring soccer games. They are definitely out there. While I watch more soccer than anyone else on this site (Hose excluded, probably), I also fall asleep during more games than anyone.

All I can do is call 'em like i see 'em, and i don't think i've ever called a boring soccer game entertaining. at least i hope not, because that would make me, like, a hypocrite.

I agree with Andy to a certain extent. The Finals were good, but only in comparison to previous years. It's like when a dumb football player gets a 'D+' in math class. The grade still sucks, but hey, it's better than an F.

One thing to point out, though, is your comparison of NBA diehards and boxing fans. Couldn't the same be said of many soccer fans? A game ends in 1-0 (see: Euro Cup Final) and soccer buffs exclaim that it was a beautiful, excellent, fancy game. Actually, it was boring as hell. Germany didn't even try and score after the first 15 minutes. I enjoy good soccer games, but many are just as boring as every single PPV boxing max we've bought at the Shaggy Manor.

Compared to the level of play in the last decade, the finals were very entertaining. The reason being, the level of play in the league the last 10 years has been boring and awful. Watch some You Tube clips of the Showtime Lakers in the 80's or Jordan's Bulls in the 90's (hell, even the Sonics of the 90's) and you'll see exactly how the game SHOULD be played on all levels....offense, defense, fast breaks, rebounding...The Celts this year did it better than anybody in the leauge, but that aint saying much...

I can't wait to watch hoops in the Olympics, that will be entertaining.

The Finals were fun to watch when the Celtics were flowing - like the first half of game 2, second half of game 4, and pretty much all of game 6.

Now it wasn't the greatest basketball display ever, but it was certainly not "dirt poor".

European basketball can be more aesthetically pleasing because they don't have any post players and the bangers they do have are neutered by the rules.

You are not alone. I am here with you. I'm also thinking some of the European basketball leagues may feature more high quality play than the NBA. Tubby is like the Jim Ross of NBA grandstanding - I can no longer take him (or the league) seriously. G'Day.

Dammit Tubby I have to speak on this. This has gone on too long.

The quality of the NBA Finals was dirt poor. Everyone knows this. Saying they were entertaining to set yourself up as some sort of NBA super-fan with the ability to appreciate what the rest of us can't - this has to stop.

This holds true for boxing. Fights where no one punches each other aren't exciting because they are "technical" as you would have us believe. They are stupid.

Let's finally call a spade a spade. Am I alone here?

How could you watch the Finals and say the quality of play in the NBA is poor? The Celtics played defense like few teams I've ever seen, they moved the ball well, and Pau Gasol showed some of the more creative post play we've seen since everyone started copying Chris Webber's two dribble-jump hook combo. The NBA is amazing.

Um, Marc's rights were part of Pau's trade, right? You gotta figure Marc might get traded for some Gasol family sperm to be named later.
