Schilling vows to fight fading spotlight

Fig Jam

Two weeks removed from season/career ending surgery, Kurt Schilling collected some media members together so that he could say stuff that they would write down . Schilling said that by discussing the possibility that he will return to the Major Leagues, he thinks he can continue to be relevant for at least another year.  Sports fans of the non-Boston world rejoice!

Schilling reportedly believes that if he rehabs everyday for the next 9 months, he will be able to get some work in spring ball next year, and pitch anywhere from 15-20 innings of regular season baseball before blowing out another major ligament somewhere in his body.  More importantly, however, the rehab will keep Schilling connected to his lifeline - the media.   “If you’ve read my blog, or listened to all the outlandish and stupid things that I say, it’s pretty clear that I am desperate for attention at all times.  I will do whatever it takes to keep giving interviews for as long as possible because I don’t think I will be able to survive once people stop listening to me.” Schilling said (ok - he didn’t say that. I made it up, you got me).

Evidence suggests that Schilling is aware that his politcal rants, along with the commentary he provides on other teams and players is totally nonsensical and under normal circumstances would be totally ignored.  However, the fact that he was a good pitcher 8 years ago and has positioned himself in a media hub, has enabled Schilling to continue talking long after a point at which most batshit crazy nutballs would quiet down.  But injury threatens all that.  Thus, the forty something year old (god it seems like he’s 100 doesn’t it??) will now dig in and fight his long slow slide into obscurity with everything he’s got.   Good luck sir.
