“Slave” Ronaldo stays sharp in offseason with rhetorical flopping

For truly great players there is no offseason. You might think that rehabbing the ankle he injured with Portugal in Euro would keep the man some consider to be the world’s best soccer player from sharpening his skills. But Cristiano Ronaldo will let no such trifle hinder his development.

Ronaldo is eager for a transfer to Real Madrid, having probably maximized his visibility in the English speaking world after starring for Manchester United over the past four seasons. With Sir Alex Ferguson reluctant to let his best player walk, Cristiano has resorted to playing the Prince card…..kind of.

On Thursday, the simmering dispute between the player and United took a new twist when Fifa president Sepp Blatter entered the debate, saying there is “too much modern slavery in football,” a comment on transfer trends that Ronaldo then said he agreed with.

Much ado about nothing? Probably. But nevertheless many (I mean me!) would question the logic of even alluding to your almost $240,000 a week salary as slavery. It’s been a minute since I last saw Roots, but I suspect Chicken George’s Cribs episode would be brief (though rich in spirit). If Ronaldo’s lifestyle equals slavery, then sign me up!

Did you hear about the two cell phone towers that got married? The ceremony was nothing special, but the reception was excellent!
