Pac-10 Football Podcast

Constable Echelon

I had an idea this past spring while listening to The Basketball Jones that we ought to do a Pac-10 football podcast for the site. Then the craziest thing happened: I followed through with it. Fig Jam and I got together and did the first show. The goal is to have one of these up per week (every Tuesday) through the college football season. 13 more minutes of media for you to consume during the interminable wait between weekends.

Without further ado, please behold in all its homemade glory the Pac-10 Football Podcast from Hotdog & Friends.

It was a pleasure to be one room away when you guys recorded this. You neglected probably the most important rule change of all: the new 40 second play clock that starts as soon as the previous play ends (and the corresponding rule about how if a player goes out-of-bounds, the playclock starts when the ball is set as opposed to when it is snapped). This will have an enormous effect on games and could have helped us beat USC a few years ago. Discuss!

We had it originally but it was cut for time. I don’t think that rule change is going to have a gigantic effect on the time of games. However, it is symptomatic of the NCAA’s quixotic desire to tinker with something that isn’t broken. Dear NCAA, People enjoy college football. No one was clamoring for any of these rule changes.

Nice. Thanks for that dudes. I was transfixed. It was like listening to an olde-fashioned couch-based B.S. session at the house or NHCC, except scripted. My only lingering worry is that this experiment may have sucked up too much of the DoD’s precious bandwidth…I’ll continue to listen until I get a phone call.

Helloooooo blog fans. Great way to start out- maybe an airhorn, a cymbal or a bell could ring everytime you guys make an especially fine observation. Seeya next Tuesday!

AMEN. I love a rational college football voice. Rare these days. Humor was excellent.

Best thing I have listened to this week. This will make Wednesday morning classes much more bearable. Kids: “Blah Blah Blah I’m rich and don’t want to learn.” Me: “Shut the fuck up, I am listening to highly important educational material. Everyone take a 10 minute nap.”

Did you hear about the two cell phone towers that got married? The ceremony was nothing special, but the reception was excellent!
