Thanks to commenter Bobby for putting me up on the news that Joel Smith will be playing for Chaminade University in Honolulu this season.
I couldn’t find the story anywhere so I took it upon myself to email Maurice Maggiolino, who serves as both Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Sports Information Director for Chaminade.
His confirmation, Joel’s scholarship status, and news of grad school plans after the jump.

I can confirm this. Joel will be attending Chaminade University in the fall and will be playing basketball for the Silverswords. He will be on scholarship and will be playing in Maui come November. Joel will be pursuing his Master’s in Education. Hope this helps.
This sounds like a fantastic situation for Joel: free grad school in beautiful Hawaii. Great to see things working out for him.
Chaminade hosts the annual Maui Invitational preseason tournament. This year they open up with North Carolina. Go Silverswords!

So…uh…apparently the Seattle Times linked to this story (thank you). Are we going to be expected to report real news from here on out?

I’m fine with reporting real news so long as I can continue to post in my underwear. I’m fairly certain reporting at the Times follows a similar protocol.
