The Huskies May Find A Coach Just Yet

Sager Bombs

There’s been a significant amount of bitching about the movement (or lack of) towards finding a new coach for the Washington football program.  We’ve been part of said bitching.  It was silly to think that there was really no movement towards finding a replacement, but the people in charge of searching know from experience just how leaks and rumors can lead to chaos on the internets.  Mark Emmert and Scott Woodward did this shit at LSU, whose fans could teach us northwesterners a thing or two about mass speculation amongst the fanbase

So now that leaks and rumors are coming out, let’s speculate!  En masse!

In the last few days, Cincinatti’s Brian Kelly and Texas Tech’s Mike Leach have seen their names thrown into the ring.  Fresno State’s Pat Hill flew up for an interview.  Utah coach Kyle Whittingham and Boise State coach Chris Peterson have given non-denial denials to the media, and it’s tough to tell if they’d actually like to be considered or are just playing coy in hopes of an extension where they already are.  And for all his denials, Jim Mora is the name that just won’t go away.  Leach seems unlikely at best; he can get more money and a better job in a region he knows.  I’d love to see it happen but I’d be shocked if it did.  Hill makes sense in that he might actually want the job, but I think it would split the fan base.  People who still think this is a marquee job will think we can do better, and will point to Hill’s age as a sign that he won’t be around long enough.  I’m of the mindset that if we can get a coach of his caliber who’s been able to recruit talent to Fresno, we should jump all over that shit and build from the ground up.  This is not going to be an overnight rebuild.  A new coach isn’t going to make us a BCS contender overnight.  Urban Meyer is not walking through that door (etc, etc).  Hill is solid, if not spectacular, when it comes to doing more with less.  If we can get him, I say we shut this shit down and get the signature.

What do you think?  Swing for the fence with Whittingham or Peterson?  Stay in the race for the hot items like Kelly and Leach?  Keep flirting with Mora?  Is Hill really “laying up”?

I’d go with either of the two Mormons over the Scientologist.

I don’t know where my dad is getting the scientology angle on Peterson, personally be fine with Hill; let’s get on to the next chapter of this horror story…

I’m going to say Leach would be my top choice Here’s why:

Hill- been good against out of conference, but has trouble winning the wac

Whittingham, Peterson, and Kelly- maintained [in some case even improved with flying colors], but did not build respective programs. It should be noted these would still be great guys to lead uw and I’d be happy with any of them but happiest with Whittingham.

Mora- I really don’t know what to say about him. Could be great!

Often, I find Beef’s dad’s comments more entertaining than the articles…
