Alleged Sarkisian Predictability Does Not Bother Me

The fact that Steve Sarkisian’s offense may be predictable is not a problem to me.  In fact, I’m all for it.  I don’t care if UW write’s their plays on posterboard and holds them up on the sidelines next season.  It may actually help.

In truth, what concerns me, is the execution of the plays that are called.  That is, putting a helmet on a helmet, running downhill, and actually performing the task that you have been assigned on a play-by-play basis.  The really good teams in college football would probably still win a majority of their games if the other side knew what was coming.  That is because the other side does know what is coming.  The best teams in college football do not change what they do for their opponents, their opponents must do that for them.

So, if UW is going to line up in a pro-style offense under Sarkisian and rely on the run to set up the pass, then fine.  I care not.  What I want to see is the Runningback take the ball and go north south, the Quarterback take the ball and deliver good passes, and the Receivers run good routes and then catch the ball when it is thrown to the them.  I want the linemen to block, the defensive unit to tackle, and the special teams to make field goals, switch the field, and deliver a few game changing plays throughout the course of the season.

After that, it’s up to the other schools in the PAC 10 to figure out how to beat UW.

I’m not sure. You are asking people to do their jobs. Seems like a lot to ask. I mean, receivers running good routes AND catching the ball? Linemen blocking and defensive guys tackling? This sounds like some kind of football program you are talking about here. Didn’t we spend all this time creating a pee wee golf team? We have spent 8 years recruiting fine tackling dummies, water boys and bench warmers, now you want them to change? Hmmm, well we shall see.

If predictability = Holiday Bowl, then sign me up.
