Week 6 Pac-10 Hoops Wrap (Jerry Brewer edition)
Fig Jam
Because I’m pressed for time, I’m pulling a Brewer and mailing week 6 in.
Did Good: UCLA
Crushed USC…. Then Crushed Notre Dame. How sweet a week was it to be a Bruins fan?
Did Bad: Oregon Schools
Umm… yikes.
Surprising: How bad the University of Oregon has played.
Think about this. If you’re an Oregon fan you have to be banking on the fact that all your freshmen right now are going to mature and make you a dominant force in the conference in a couple of seasons. HOWEVAH…. what if the Pac 10 had a 3 on 3 all freshman tournament? Where would Oregon finish? Would they beat all the teams listed below? Any of them?
UO: Garrett Sim, Josh Crittle, Michael Dunigan
WSU: Klay Thompson, DeAngelo Casto, Marcus Capers
UW: Isaiah Thomas, Darnell Gant, Elston Turner
UCLA: Jrue Holiday, Drew Gordon, Malcolm Lee
Also, you may want to argue that Brown and Longmire, who are sophomores, will change things for the Ducks, but again, look at some of the other teams in the conference and their sophomore Crop (UW for instance: Overton, Bryan Amaning, Holiday).
Bottom line: Oregon needs to figure it out because even though they are inexperienced to some degree, their young guys are not far and away better than the rest of the conference. These guys are going to have to get better as a team.
Played Good: Alfred Aboya, UCLA
