Everton Breaks The Mold Yet Again

Hotdog (really)

The well-publicized blood feud between Hotdog and Contsable Echelon must take a back seat for the moment, as I must give credit where it is due.

Via Soccer By Ives, H&F has receieved news of the Everton’s latest signing, Anton Peterlin. A less-than-little-regarded defensive midfielder from California, Peterlin so impressed Everton boss David Moyes during his spring trial that he will be headed to Goodison Park to join the Toffees this summer.

No word yet if they’ll have to pay a transfer fee to his current team, the Ventura County Fusion of the Premier Development League (a.k.a American soccer’s fourth division).

The story has a bit of a Seattle skew to it – Sounders coach Sigi Schmid, who has uncovered a diamond-in-the-rough defensive midfielder Osvaldo Alonso, was there when Peterlin was “discovered.”

Kudos to Everton for taking the risk. Although we all know they would swap Peterlin for Javier Mascherano in a heartbeat.

Peterlin’s going to take Mascherano’s cherry.

Fun fact: Everton signed a new deal with Le Coq Sportif, ushering in a new era of the fly-est kits in the prem. They are going to open a team store in the Liverpool One shopping mall. It will be called “Everton 2″. You have to like that.

Sounds a lot like the movie “Goal!”

Does that Everton 2 refer to being number 2, not in the league, but in Liverpool?
