A Mormonic Decision: Jake Heaps Chooses BYU

Prized recruit Jake Heaps will NOT be playing for the Huskies, according to the beautiful, enchanting King 5 sports anchor Lisa Gangel. Instead, the highly-prized quarterback prospect will be headed to a place where you check for wedding rings on sophomores.

While an unpopular decision in the Pacific Northwest, the choice should give Heaps a chance to be a four-year starter for the Cougars.

What do you think of this development? Has Heaps made the right choice?

The good side of me wants to say, “By all accounts he is a great player. I wish him luck.”

The other side is wondering what Drew Miller is up to right now.

This should be good for him, the weak competition will make him look better. Kind of like how hotdog chooses girls with small hands to make his ballpark look like a hebrew national.

He’s announcing it at “Iggy’s Sports Grill.” not “Iggy’s Sports BAR and Grill,” just “Iggy’s Sports Grill.” That place is a joke.

As for his decision, I don’t like it, but I can’t really blame him. The last hometown hero to choose UW, Jake Locker, has not reaped the benefits of his decision. Plus, Heaps’ High School coach his sophomore year came to UW for 1 season and then was fired. UW’s new coach, Sarkisian, went to BYU, so it’d be a little hard for him to go into Heaps’ home and say, ‘you don’t wanna go there.’

Take all that away and you still have the mormonism thing. That religion is very cult-like and I’m sure the pressure on Heaps from the church was extreme.

At the end of the day, I don’t think Heaps is going to make or break UW’s recruiting class. Sark has gotten basically every other kid in the state who he should have and while he may have lost out on Heaps, a key factor in that was religion, not that Heaps was choosing another program over UW. I can live with that.

Related to this is what I just saw on the College Football Live ticker (although it really relates more to just further evidence of East Coast Bias)…ESPN is announcing Heap’s decision to go to BYU, and the announced other schools he was recruited by were Miami, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Florida State. Do these guys have any clue?

I’ve driven past that Iggy’s. It’s right across from Pioneer Park aka “Homeless Park.” It’s where I go to see black people when I have a withdrawal.

I didn’t think I could hate an 18-year-old kid so much who doesn’t have bleached tips or hoop earrings.

[...] certainly takes a lot of the sting out of Skyline QB Jake Heaps’ commitment last week to BYU. Sark appears to be making good on his reputation as a California [...]
