The Pac-10 Is Cutting The Hawaii Bowl, Adding Alamo Bowl?

Fans of not very good teams being curiously rewarded will be sad to know that the Pac-10 isn’t even negotiating a possible renewal of its contract with the Hawaii Bowl.  Even more curious is the fact that both sides agreed to opt out of this year’s agreement.  The Hawaii Bowl people liked the fact that the Pac-10 couldn’t come up with enough eligible teams last season… it enabled them to land a Notre Dame windfall.

(Side Note: Remember that time Notre Dame had to play in the Hawaii Bowl?  LOL.)

As for the Pac, they point to the limited payouts and budget on the islands, but then there’s also this little nugget in the article as well

This year, with the Hawai’i Bowl scheduled to get the [Pac 10's] No. 7 pick and major doubts about whether the Pac-10 can come through, the two parties agreed to part ways.

Yikes.  I know the Pac couldn’t get 6 last year, but to write off the season as a lost cause before the damn thing starts is a little disheartening.  On the plus side, talks are ongoing to add the Alamo Bowl as the rotating #2/3 bowl (alternating yearly with the Holiday).  Is San Antonio in the same league as San Diego as a bowl destination?  Good god no.  San Diego is one of the better weekend cities in the country, and is on the west coast, making travel easier for fans.  HOWEVUH, considering that the #3 has previously been the absolutely horrible Sun Bowl in El Paso (not a destination for anything, besides getting shot and realizing you live somewhere better).  San Antonio trumps El Paso in every meaningful category for both fans and players.  Oh, and they pay out $350,000 more per team.

Wait, are the Pac-10 reps making positive steps for the league in football?  This hasn’t happened in so long.  I’m so confused…

I hope we don’t lose the Sun Bowl altogether. I have bizarrely strong attachment to the Pac-10’s current bowl arrangements.

Except for the Hawaii Bowl. Fuck that noise.

The Super Bowl just got a whole lot more interesting. The Lingerie Football League (LFL) is all about the game of – well – hot chicks rolling around in the dirt.
