The ship is sinking in Pullman after a weak loss at “home” (Qwest Field) to Hawaii.  To be fair, like most people who drove over from Eastern Washington these Cougs weren’t exactly well-traveled.  Bad sign number one: 28 of the 60 players who dressed for WSU had never been on a road trip before.   I hope they got to see the Space Needle and Pike Place Market.

Even worse sign: they were down 35-0 to the Rainbows.  With 10:05 left in the first half.  I can’t even do that on on my Playstation.  Is this rock bottom for WSU?  Oh wait, it was a home game against Hawaii.   Things are not going to end well over there.  As you might recall from Ty Willingham, this means one thing: HILARITY.  Let’s see what’s happening.

Two great quotes from Hawaii center John Estes.  Are they over the top?  Of course.  Do you leave yourself open to it when you let Hawaii take you behind the woodshed at home?  Damn right you do.  The short and catty one is “There’s a reason why they can’t win a game, (why) they don’t want to play us (in 2011). It is what it is.”  Meow.  The long and catty one has been circling a little more but in case you haven’t seen it

Frankly, Central Arkansas is a much better team (than Washington State). All this stuff about struggling against a I-AA team … a football team’s a football team. We knew we were going to beat Wazzu. We should’ve put up 70, but we made a lot of mistakes.

Yikes.

So what’s the best response?  Time to burn redshirts, baby!  True freshman Jeff Tuel is officially in play.  No reason to let little things like “QB wasn’t actually the problem” and “Freshman QBs don’t play defense” get in the way.

On the other hand, when they actually do redshirt players, like starting safety LeAndre Daniels, they break a leg and likely are gone for the season.  So who knows what the right answer is.

Finally, here is a recap of Paul Wulff’s radio show.  By the end of it callers are just yelling at the coach (I like to call that  a “Phil Fulmer”).  I need to figure out how to tune in remotely for this.

I can’t begin to explain how much I am enjoying the divergent paths the Cougs and Dawgs are on.

Let’s not forget that one of their starting WR’s, Jeshua Anderson, decided to quit the team to focus on track.

Just think how fast he would be if he could spell his name right.
