11.06.08 Pac-10 Football Podcast - UW Head Coaching Candidates

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Hello blawg fans!

Fig Jam is out this week. Pinch hitting in his place, please welcome Dank the Tank! On zero notice Dank agreed to swing by my place to do the show, and we knocked it out. In a couple of one-ers, no less. (Show biz talk for one take, no big deal…)

USC hammered the Dawgs 56-0, but WSU was not to be outdone losing 58-0 at Stanford. Stanford? 58 points? Yep, the Cougars remain terrible. Cal bested Oregon in a game played in dreadful field conditions. Don’t worry Tedford, I’m sure those upgrades are right around the corner!

We go through the pros and cons of candidates to fill Washington’s head coaching vacancy including Mike Leach, Gary Pinkel, Chris Peterson, Brian Kelly (woot!), Lane Kiffin, and Will Muschamp among others. And of course we preview this week’s slate of games, including a dandy between Cal and USC.

Note: In the show Dank references UW’s strength and conditioning coach Trent Greener as having Nebraska lineage. It turns out he does not, which may help to explain why he sucks at his job.

10.28.08 Pac-10 Football Podcast - Ty Willingham Resignation Spectacular

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Hello blawg fans!

It’s ovah, Kenny! It’s ovah! Ty Willingham “resigned” as football coach of the University of Washington effective at the end of the season. Lane Kiffin. Chris Peterson. Jim Mora. Pick your horse. This development actually lets us venture back into weary optimism regarding the hapless Dawgs. Longterm that is.

Oh, and there were games! USC outlasted Arizona 17-10 in Tucson. Oregon demolished ASU in Tempe behind their relentless ground attack. And Cal used a big 4th quarter to distance themselves from the Kevin Craft show against UCLA.

You took the high road Ty! Now go on the road…to USC, where the Dawgs will attempt to cover a 43 point spread. Oregon and Cal meet in the annually interesting Tedford-Bellotti clash. And WSU travels as 30 point road dogs against Toby Gerhart and Stanford.

But Ty’s gone. That’s the story.

10.14.08 Pac-10 Football Podcast - Stanford is frisky

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Hello blawg fans!

USC continued to distance themselves from the malice in Corvallis, shutting out ASU. Stanford put up 286 yards on the ground to beat Arizona. Oregon put up 323(!) yards rushing to hold off UCLA at home. WSU? Yikes.

Can Cal keep their conference record unblemished in Tuscon? Will Stanford keep rolling against a sleeper competitive UCLA squad in Pasadena? Is 43 points a big enough spread for USC @ WSU?

10.02.08 Pac-10 Football Podcast - Nothing is good. We’re emo.

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Hello blawg fans!

Thanks for putting up with the deviation from our usual Tuesday time slot. If anyone has any questions about Northanger Abbey I am prepared to answer them. On to the show.

The Ty Willingham era came to its effective end last Saturday when the Dawgs dropped what appeared to be an exceedingly winnable game to Stanford. Good god the Husky defense is bad. USC got smacked in the mouth by Oregon State, and Fresno took care of business in Pasadena. The football monopoly in LA is over indeed.

Should Jake move to safety while he’s injured? Better question, should Mason Foster move to safety permanently? Can USC rebound against the Ducks in LA? Jam packed show this week. Enjoy it.

09.23.08 Pac-10 Football Podcast - Ladies and Gentleman: Our best show to date

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Hello blawg fans!

So last week we offered up a discreet stinker of a show topped off with obtrusive computer fan noise to ruin the first segment. It was the type of effort that would sink a lesser podcast. Not us, folks. We’re back big time.

Oregon didn’t show up until the fourth quarter against Boise State, and managed to kill any remaining chance of the Pac-10 regaining national respect this year. Which makes this conference season quaint if you take away USC. Everyone fighting it out under the radar with surprises around every corner.

Three conference games this week. Can Oregon State repeat their upset of USC a couple of years ago under the Thursday Night Lights? Can Oregon rebound and handle their business at WSU? Can Washington cover as home favorites against Stanford? Will Jason Gessar string together a coherent thought?

09.16.08 Pac-10 Football Podcast - The Pac-10 is officially down

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Hello Blawg fans!

So, USC’s trouncing of Ohio State was about the only good thing that happened to the Pac-10 last week. Cal lost to a Maryland team that lost to Middle Tennessee State. WSU did not hold up as road favorites at Baylor. UCLA played so poorly against BYU that all goodwill from the Tennessee upset may have already been spent.

Does Arizona, coming off a loss to New Mexico, have what it takes to beat UCLA? Can WSU beat Portland State? And why is that last question totally reasonable?

Can UW cover as touchdown underdogs against the bye week?

Hello Blawg fans!

In this week’s show we wrap up UW’s heartbreaker at home against BYU, WSU’s worst loss in history, as well as Oregon State’s no show at Beaver Stadium.

Can UW cover as three touchdown Dawgs at home? How in god’s name is WSU a road favorite against a BCS conference team this week? Can UCLA expect to win at BYU?

Oh yeah, and Ohio State is coming to USC for a monster non conference matchup. We got that too.

In our sixth show we recap all the week one action in the Pac-10, and look ahead to week two.

Can Washington rebound from a ridiculously poor showing against Oregon? Does WSU have enough players to compete at the D-1 level? Should Arizona State be worried about their inability to run the ball against Northern Arizona?

08.19.08 Pac-10 Football Podcast - Previewing the California and Arizona schools

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Hello Blawg fans,

In the fourth edition of our Pac-10 Podcast series, Constable Echelon and Fig Jam take a look at our conference’s warm weather schools.

Is Jeff Tedford really a quarterback guru? Is Dennis Erickson convincing anyone he’s not worried about his offensive line?

We ran long on this one so it’s a two part-er. Those paying close attention would note that this show is a little late getting up. There was an illness in the family. All have recovered. Enjoy!
